Light-bulb moment

Light-bulb moment

Arkansas Business, Jan 29, 2007

IT’S BEEN MORE THAN SIX years since John McFarland, CEO of Baldor Electric Co. in Fort Smith, had his light-bulb moment. Lee Scott, CEO of Wal-Mart, had his a couple of years ago. The Arkansas Public Service Commission had one last year, and it sounds like President Bush has had one, too.

All across the country, businesses and governments are coming to the same conclusion: Energy conservation is as good for the bottom line as it is for the environment.

Throughout this issue of Arkansas Business you will find stories of companies that are saving money–and making money–on the simple idea of using less energy, particularly the fossil fuel variety. The Fayetteville Shale Play is not the only potential energy bonanza in the Natural State.

As you read about the outrageous savings to be had from LED streetlights, the strength of walls made of foam and concrete sandwiches, and the large and small initiatives adopted by the country’s largest retailer, you might have your own light-bulb moment
